CASTING

Please note: Auditions for the Theatre Season are by invitation only and usually take place between January and May

Because Shakespeare's Globe is an unsubsidised theatre, the casting department is relatively small so are unable to respond to unsolicited submissions. However, if you are performing in anything that we can come and see you in, please send the details of your show to casting@shakespearesglobe.com and we will endeavour to come along.

Rehearsals for the theatre season start approximately six weeks before the opening of each production. Rehearsals for the opening show of the season therefore begin in March. The season closes at the beginning of October.

THE GLOBE YOUNG PLAYERS

In January 2014, Shakespeare’s Globe will be opening a new, indoor playhouse – a 17thcentury reconstruction that will be lit entirely by candlelight.

Following a search for young talent later this year, we will be forming a new company of specially selected 12 to 16 year olds who will be given the once in a lifetime opportunity to train under the Globe’s own expert practitioners.

Open to a range of acting abilities and experience, the Globe Young Players apprentice scheme is set to begin in Autumn 2013.

The Globe Young Players Company will work once a week for six months followed by an intensive rehearsal period, culminating in a professionally staged performance of John Marston’s finest play, The Malcontent. For the first time in 400 years, The Malcontent will be performed and recreated by a company of young actors for whom this play was originally written, in the tradition of the child actor companies of Shakespeare’s time.

The Malcontent will play for 12 performances in the indoor space from 3rd to 19th April 2014, and will mark the finale of the Globe’s first ever winter season.

The Young Players will be schooled in the craft and performance of early modern drama, and work with masters in text, voice, movement, dance and fights.
