Juliet played by Cassie Layton
Romeo & Juliet (2015)
Written by: William Shakespeare
After appearing in Pitcairn in 2014, Cassie returns to the Globe as Juliet in the touring production of Romeo & Juliet.
“Juliet works herself up into a frenzy. She actually spooks herself and sees the ghost of her cousin. I think there’s an enjoyment out of working herself up and scaring herself.”
In her second interview, Cassie talks developing the relationships in the play, the touring players vibe to the company, and thought that Juliet is not just a young naïve girl.
“Her father describes her as a stranger to the world and I don’t think she's really been out a huge amount. She would have had all the biblical texts and the Dante’s and anything she can see, and then her own imagination takes hold of that.”
In her first interview, Cassie talks through the dark, gothic side to Juliet, playing the Globe stage and her attempt to get through the entire Shakespeare DVD box set.
