In this production all the cast wore modern evening dress throughout, and there was no set.

There was little permanent set, but some camouflage netting, and ladders against the pillars, and an on-stage flight of steps to the upper stage (see photograph for 2011 revival below).

2010 PRODUCTION, DIRECTED BY LUCY BAILEY

 

In this production the back wall of the stage was covered by a large black cloth, and there were rins above the stage symbolising the circles of Hell. In the Yard the most groundlings stoof under a black membrane with just their heads poking through, symbolising the souls trappen in the frozen lake in Dante’s seventh circle of hell.
