Part of the 2012 Globe to Globe Festival.

Performed in German by the Bremer Shakespeare Company, from Bremen, Germany.

In 1993 Bremer Shakespeare Company performed The Merry Wives of Windsor on the building site of the Globe Theatre. They have staged over 40 Shakespeare productions in their home on the western bank of the Weser in Bremen, and have toured throughout Europe and Asia. Nineteen years after The Merry Wives, they return with a bold, wild and bouncy production of Timon of Athens, the perfect play for our times.

SYNOPSIS

Timon is a prosperous man and generous to his friends. His loyal servant, Flavius, worries about Timon's reckless spending. Flavius’ fears are realised when Timon's creditors demand their money back but he cannot pay them. Timon asks his friends to lend him some money but all refuse. Disillusioned by his false friends and human nature he flees to the wilderness, where he wallows in misanthropy and hated for the city he once loved.
