A Digital Networking Event for the Cultural Industries
Kicking off at The Komedia in Brighton on 29 January 2013, Interface is a digital/cultural networking event for lean digital start-ups and artists to meet with cultural organisations and vice versa.
Times are tough: As such big cultural companies are not always able to create the fresh, agile work their audiences want without massive financial investment, while young ambitious companies are struggling to be seen by the ‘behemoths’ that could commission work and raise their profile. Shakespeare’s Globe created Interface to provide a space for discovering talent and forging links to take these organisations forward in these difficult, but exciting times.
“Although in its first year, we are delighted to have formed the partnership of such diverse cultural organisations in our shared hope of nurturing emerging talent.” Says Harper Ray, Digital Manager (Globe Education) and event organiser.
The Cultural Industries will be represented by:
- Barbican
- Imperial War Museums
- National Theatre
- Penguin Books
- Rambert Dance Company
- Royal Albert Hall
- Tate
- Shakespeare's Globe
- Unicorn Theatre
- V & A
With support from Regional Partners
The day will include a bespoke networking session based on partners’ specialisms and what areas of work each they have indicated is of interest to them. This means that people are matched based on skills and interests rather than digital suppliers selecting by organization, and gives much greater relevance for companies to pitch to each other and make links.
Shakespeare’s Globe has covered all of the costs, providing a completely free event with no booking or registration fees. “We don’t consider this a social responsibility,” Harper comments, “but an opportunity to keep our own organisations on the cutting edge. I hope that by connecting companies in this way, the best digital work finds a home, no matter what the scale of the cultural and creative organisation.”
