2011 Season - Shakespeare's Globe All's Well That Ends Well DVD

The 2011 Globe season, directed by John Dove, stars Sam Crane and Ellie Piercy as Bertram and Helena, and includes performances by James Garnon as troublemaker Parolles and Janie Dee as Bertram's interferring mother, the countess of Roussilon. With lavish staging and costume, the production is a triumph that, according to The Independent, 'leaves the audience reeling with happiness by the end'. FIlmed in High Definition and true sorround sound.

All's Well That Ends Well centres on the tale of Helena's quest to marry the man she loves, the rather unimpressed Bertram, who initially refuses her due to her lack of social standing. Aided by fellow conspirator Diana, Helena devises a fail-safe scheme to ensnare her man...

A brilliant production of one of the Bard's lesser-known plays. Ellie Piercy is excellent in the key role of Helena; but all the cast are terrific. The comedy is brought out to the max, with Parolles (James Garnon) side-splittingly funny. All's Well is often regarded as a problem play due to the "hero's" sudden volte-face at the end. I thought the Globe had found a clever way round this via a piece of green cloth; but it was absent from the final scene so perhaps I was wrong. A joyous production, and recommended to all.
