2010 Season - Shakespeare's Globe Henry IV Part 2

£19.99

The second installment of the Shakespeare's Globe 2010 production of Henry IV includes some of the greatest moments in Shakespeare: the deathbed scene of the old King, when Hal contemplates the crown; and Hal's devastating rejection of Falstaff himself.

Hotspur is dead and Prince Hal has proved his mettle on the battlefield, but King Henry IV lies dying and the rebels show no sign of surrendering. Even Sir John Falstaff is forced out of the taverns to raise a militia, but will his attachment to Hal be rewarded with promotion and the life of ease he feels sure he deserves?

Roger Allam won the 2011 Best Actor Olivier Award for his performance in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2.

If anything, even better that Part 1. Allam gives another magnificent performance, but there is not a performance that is not wonderful. The two elderly justices are brilliant, and the recruitment scene hilarious. Mistress Quickly and Doll Tearsheet also generate their share of laughs. The direction is first class - sight gags bringing out the comedy which were implicit in Shakespeare's text, but which other productions so often miss.
