Playing the Globe workshops run throughout the year and can be considered as an introduction to the work of The Studio. Workshops will focus on approaches to performing in the Globe space, each with a focus on one particular text.
Actors will have the chance to explore the unique actor-audience relationship in the amphitheatre and how this impacts upon our understanding of Shakespeare’s texts. We will work collaboratively to explore in practical ways the playing conditions of this unique space and how to account for its acoustics, sight lines and stage features.
Sunday 16 February 1.00pm – 4.00pm. Play text: Hamlet
Preparation: Ahead of this workshop, participants need to read or re-read Hamlet and will be sent five scenes to focus on. You also need to learn a short speech from any play (16 lines maximum).
Thursday 20 February 9.00am – 12 noon. Play text: As You Like It
Preparation: Ahead of this workshop, participants need to have memorised a short speech from any Shakespeare play.
Sunday 1 March 9.00am – 12 noon. Play text: Twelfth Night
