Movement Studio

This event has now passed.

Our movement training for professional actors draws on the fundamental principles of performance in the Globe Theatre. Taught by Globe faculty who have worked in our playhouses, our online movement workshops support actors to explore meaning in Shakespeare’s text by using physical choices rather than textual ones.

Globe actors engage fully with their body, the text and the space in which they are playing. In this session you will embody and experience the three dimensional physical presence required for playing the Globe Stage, building an awareness of the relationship between physical and metaphysical space as it exists on the Globe stage, as well as in Shakespeare’s texts.

Suit the action to the word, the word to the action

– Hamlet, Act III, Scene 2

What did Shakespeare mean by this? How do you achieve this? And what do you and your audience miss if you don’t?

This is a Stage Two Studio class. This means that the session will be taught on the assumption that all participants have some knowledge of performance in the Globe Theatre. If you have not had previous experience of working or training in the Globe, we recommend that you take part in a Stage One class before booking onto this class.

There will be a maximum of 12 participants in this intensive two hour class. It will be led by a member of our Globe movement faculty, who has extensive experience in working in the Globe theatre. You will be working practically in this session.

Your ticket is valid for one individual to join this online session on one device.

You cannot book this session unless you have registered with The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe and the ticket must be booked by the individual who will be participating in the workshop.

You will be sent a pre-visit email one week before the event with a copy of the text we will be working with (it does not need to be memorised). If you have booked within a week of the event, this email will be sent the day after your booking.

A second pre-visit email with a unique link and joining instructions will be sent to you the day of the event. You will need access to a reliable internet connection and to be able to join a Zoom meeting.

Please ensure you arrive a couple of minutes in advance of the start time. The Zoom meeting will be locked after 10 minutes and latecomers will not be admitted
