Join us as we welcome Ramadan Tent Project to break fast in the iconic, open-air Globe Theatre as part of Open Iftar 2023.
Since 2013, Open Iftar has connected over 500,000 people during the holy month of Ramadan through free events that are open to all. This year, to celebrate their 10th anniversary, they will be hosting Iftars at leading cultural venues across 10 UK cities, including here at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Open Iftar bridges communities; it is a space in which our communities are highlighted, our differences celebrated and human connection is forged. Expect engaging speeches, community cohesion, free food, spiritual reflection, prayers and great conversations.
This event is free and open to all, regardless of faith, but advance registration is required. Registration will open online on Thursday 6 April and is managed by the Ramadan Tent Project.

What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic year, during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset. It was also the month in which the Holy Qur’an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. The Islamic calendar follows the phases of the moon and, in 2023, Ramadan is expected to begin on Wednesday 22 March and end on Friday 21 April.
What is Iftar?
During Ramadan, Muslims observe strict fasting from dawn to sunset. At sunset, a prayer called Maghrib is observed, followed by a meal to break the fast. This meal is call Iftar.
What is Open Iftar 2023?
Open Iftar is a series of events organised as part of Ramadan Festival 2023 by Ramadan Tent Project. These events, hosted at leading cultural attractions, invite people from all faiths and none to come together during Ramadan to break fast and create spaces of mutual dialogue, engagement and exchange. The events include speeches, opportunities to pray and a free meal shared by all attendees.
Can I attend if I am not a Muslim?
Yes, Open Iftar is open to all, regardless of faith. As capacity is limited, advance registration is required. Registration will open on Thursday 6 April and is managed by the Ramadan Tent Project.
