2010 Season - Shakespeare's Globe The Merry Wives of Windsor

£19.99

Shakespeare's hilarious and brilliantly constructed farce, The Merry Wives of Windsor, delighted audiences at the Globe Theatre in 2008 and 2010.

Imagining that Mistress Ford and Mistress Page have fallen for him, the fat knight Sir John Falstaff decides to seduce them both, as much for their husbands' money as for their personal charms. Wise to the old rogue's tricks, the women turn the tables on him with a series of humiliating assignations and a very damp, extremely smelly laundry basket.

Fabulous music and inspired performances made this a magical experience to behold. Shakespeare comedy played to its finest , merriest , and positively most uplifting.

This is a joyous, warm-hearted and very funny production of ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ with fine ensemble acting throughout. I particularly enjoyed Christopher Benjamin’s foolishly gullible Falstaff, whilst Serena Evans and Sarah Woodward are sublime as the witty and mischievous Windsor wives. Nigel Hess’ playful and romantic music, played on period instruments, rounds out this delightful and uplifting production.
