Augustine’s Oak is based on the account of St. Augustine’s conversion of the pagan Anglo-Saxons in 597 AD and his attempt to bring the Welsh believers under the sway of the Roman Church. Sent from Rome by Pope Gregory the Great, Augustine and his monks land in Kent. There they struggle to unite the pagan king with his Christian wife. But his greatest challenge is to reconcile the breakaway Christians of the Celtic Church to the authority of Rome. Under an oak tree the two traditions collide and the meeting will change the whole history of Britain.
