Adrian Woodward

Adrian Woodward (aka Woody) studied at Trinity College and the Royal College of Music in London, and also at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.

He is one of the leading period instrument specialists in the UK, recording with the major record labels and regularly for BBC Radio 3. Woody has played in prestigious concert halls in cities worldwide, with all the period instruments orchestras, most regularly with the Kings Consort, Gabrieli and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Woody has recently taken a sabbatical in the Middle East, learning Arabic and also musical instruments of the region including the Qanun and the Quarter-tone trumpet. He plays with a Persian group led by Arnik Shams, and together we were recorded live for an Iranian TV programme.

At Shakespeare’s Globe, Woody enjoys being a regular workshop facilitator for large groups of all ages, and he loves the challenge and beauty of combining music for the plays. He has played on the Globe Theatre and Sam Wanamaker Playhouse stages over 2000 times, as a regular Musical Director and player in 41 productions, under 4 Artistic Directors.
