“Watching the sunset over the river Thames on a warm summer day whilst volunteering in such a historical building is truly magical and inspiring.”

How long have you been a volunteer: One year.

Why did you decide to become a volunteer: I am an English student so naturally I love Shakespeare, but I am also very interested in theatre and the arts in general. I really wanted to give some of my time to such a wonderful educational charity. It’s also a good opportunity to see how a professional theatre operated.

Tell us about a memorable shift: My first shift as a fully-fledged volunteer. It was quite daunting not being with a buddy but I remembered the help and support I was given by my colleagues.

What is the best thing about volunteering at the Globe: Watching the sun set over the river Thames on a warm summer day whilst volunteering in such a historical building is truly magical and inspiring. Also meeting such a diverse group of volunteers and hearing everyone’s stories.

What have you learnt since becoming a volunteer: Theatre has the power to bring everyone together.

What piece of advice would you offer someone who is interested in becoming a volunteer: Just go for it! The whole application process was really relaxed and the team was so lovely and friendly. You’ve got nothing to lose by applying!
