BIOGRAPHY
Lucy Cuthbertson
Lucy Cuthbertson is Director of Education, Learning and Families at Shakespeare’s Globe and has over 30 years’ experience as a theatre‑maker, director and drama educator, specialising in work with and for young people.
Her career spans professional theatre, state education and national school leadership. She has twice received Olivier nominations for family theatre work at the Globe with Splendid Productions and is a founder member of Ridiculusmus Theatre Company. Lucy previously held senior education leadership roles across a large multi‑academy trust and has extensive experience supporting inclusive, LGBTQ‑affirming practice in schools.
Since joining the Globe in 2019, Lucy has led Learning and Family work through major expansion, including a large‑scale digital programme during lockdown, the development of Youth Theatre and Young Company, and the growth of Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank. She directed Midsummer Mechanicals (2022/23) and Rough Magic (2024/25) in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, both Olivier‑nominated, and directed Romeo and Juliet (2024) and Macbeth (2025) for Playing Shakespeare, reaching over 30,000 students.
Lucy is a trustee of the English Association, a member of the APPG for Shakespeare and a judge for the TES and Music & Drama Education Awards.
