Our thanks to you all on Giving Tuesday

Your support has enabled us to achieve so much in 2019

3 minute read

Giving Tuesday starts December with a message of what the festive period is all about: support, donation and the power of people. It’s an opportunity to cultivate the power of community and good, and who has the most supportive audiences, members and visitors if not the Globe community?

This year, through your support, we’ve been able to achieve a great deal, including:

  • Enable 73,000 children and young people to participate in an education workshop
  • Sell 152,000 tickets at £5, ensuring Shakespeare remains accessible to all

Everything that we do, from our education and outreach work to our productions, our academic research to maintaining our pair of iconic playhouses, is thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

This year, our visionary founder, Sam Wanamaker, would have celebrated his 100th birthday. For this special anniversary, we aimed to raise £100,000 to support his legacy and continue his work. Thanks to the incredible support of the Globe community, we have not only reached this target, but exceeded it.

However, there is still more work to be done, and there are many ways that you can support the Globe and all that we do.

At the heart of Shakespeare’s Globe are its Members, and for over thirty years, they have shared Sam Wanamaker’s dream, supported our celebrated productions and championed our education projects. They have also unlocked exclusive insights, benefits and perks that only our closest circle of supporters can access…

Our Members can book their tickets before anyone else during priority booking, they have unlimited free access to the Globe Theatre Guided Tour and can access sold out performances in our exclusive Patron seats in both of our theatres. From behind-the-scenes tours to invitations to our special Season Insights, becoming a Friend or a Patron is the best way to take a step closer to the action, while supporting the Globe’s mission as a charity.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider leaving Shakespeare’s Globe a legacy gift in your will. Leaving a gift to the Globe is a vital way of helping to ensure that our theatres, productions and outreach work can continue to be enjoyed by generations to come, and thousands of people each year.

‘Thank you. I am not of many words, but I thank you’

Thank you to everyone who supported us in 2019. We would not have been able to achieve all that we have without you, and we hope you’ll continue to support us as we make our way into 2020, and beyond.
