Green Friday is the new Black Friday

How does the Globe celebrate Green Friday and why does it matter?

You’ve heard of Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when retailers slash prices to kick off Christmas sales, but what is Green Friday? And why should you join the Globe in choosing to shop consciously during the holiday sales season?

Is Green Friday is the new Black Friday?

The same date as Black Friday, Green Friday is a movement that encourages greener shopping habits from both retailers and customers, and asks them to ignore the Black Friday hype.

Everyone can work together to eliminate waste from Black Friday sales culture by cutting down impulse buying or stockpiling extra stock. This is why the Globe Shop has created its Green Edit Collection.

What is in the Globe’s 2025 “Green Edit Collection”?

The Globe shop is committed to sustainability year-round and is constantly increasing it eco-conscious product range, so participating in Green Friday is a no-brainer for the team! Globe Green Friday collections focus on a small selection of eco-consciously sourced and produced products, including some of our bestsellers, at a reduced price.

All products included in this year’s Green Edit Collection must meet our Globe Green standards.

We work with local businesses and artisans

  • The jeweller that crafts the Globe’s walnut wood jewellery collection works out of a carbon-neutral workshop in the UK. These high-quality pieces include our Walnut Globe Theatre Necklace, Walnut Wood Sonnet 18 Brooch, and Walnut Wood Globe Theatre Brooch which are all made from natural walnut wood and renewable FSC plywood.
  • Our Heroines Mirror Acrylic Necklace collection named after our favourite characters Ophelia, Juliet, Lady Macbeth, are all made in a carbon-neutral workshop in Kent. The necklace uses 15% recycled Perspex, is nickel-free, and is packaged in a recyclable kraft giftbox.

We work with eco-conscious manufacturers

  • Most of our clothing range, including our Hamlet ‘To Be’ Hoodie, is made from Certified Organic Cotton and printed with low waste printing tech. They are manufactured from a renewable energy powered UK factory audited for a wide range of social and sustainability criteria.
  • One of our best-selling products our As You Like It Tote bag, as well our new cheeky tea towel collection, is made from 100% cotton and printed with GOTS water-based inks by a UK printer with Soil Association accreditation. This means we can be sure that all dye waste is disposed of in a way that does not harm the environment.

We store and package our products sustainably

  • We try to only offer products for our Green Friday collections that we physically have in store to reduce additional shipping.
  • We have increased our print-to-order products to reduce overproduction and the eventual waste of unpurchased homeware and textiles.
  • The Globe Shop uses corn starch bioplastic carrier bags that degrade into natural elements and is beginning a partnership with KVAAT, a company providing reusable packaging solutions to eliminate waste from the parcel shipping industry.

So whether you’re a sales-savvy early Christmas shopper or a sucker for some unique Shakespeare-themed goodies, join us in a climate-friendly approach to shopping this Green Friday.
