Build your summer day out
Acting, sword-fighting, watching a show, stepping back in time… There’s oodles of fun for kids and their grown-ups this summer holiday at Shakespeare’s Globe. Find out what’s on and build your day out.
1. A World Elsewhere
Jump into Shakespeare’s stories with our gloriously inventive new show for everyone aged 5 – 105.
Full of silliness, music, and heart, it’s created by the Olivier Award-nominated team behind Rough Magic (★★★★★ ‘An absolute treat’, Broadway World) and Midsummer Mechanicals.
Cass is a boy who finds real life tricky. He escapes to his imagination, where he dreams up wild adventures inspired by his Gran’s tales from Shakespeare. But something is going wrong in Cass’s World Elsewhere… Can he stop the strange darkness that’s creeping in?
2. Family workshops
Become the storyteller yourself in our fun and interactive workshops to accompany A World Elsewhere, for ages 5 – 8 or 9 – 11 and their grown-ups. Workshops for the Deaf and BSL users accompany the Captioned and BSL Interpreted performances.
3. Young Actors courses
Know a budding young performer? Awaken their dramatic side on one of our five-day Young Actors courses. They’ll rehearse scenes, learn about voice and movement, and have fun with Shakespeare’s language and characters – all ending with a performance for family, carers and friends.
Dates throughout August for ages 8 – 10, 11 – 13, 14 – 16 and 17 – 19.
4. Globe Theatre Guided Tour
Travel back in time and imagine what life was like in Shakespeare’s day on a Guided Tour of the Globe Theatre. Led by an expert Guide, you’ll step inside the iconic open-air theatre and discover its secrets and stories. Under-16s go half price (T&Cs apply).
5. Sword-Fighting and Elizabethan Costume Demonstrations
Join a Sword-Fighting Demonstration and watch our expert Globe Fight Team battle it out! Or discover some of the fashions (and faux pas) of the 16th century and try some of the clothes yourself at our Costume Demonstrations.
6. Kids’ menus
All that activity might leave you a bit peckish. Head to Swan Bar & Restaurant for delicious food and drink, including a kids’ menu or even a special kids’ afternoon tea.
7. Treat thyself
No trip is complete without a quick wander round the Shop. Our wooden swords and rat hand puppets prove popular with young adventurers.
A World Elsewhere plays in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse until 30 August 2026.
