Bring Shakespeare’s King Lear to life in this fun and practical workshop on one of our unique stages – the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. For ages 14-16.
Take a fresh approach to Shakespeare’s powerful tale with a practical exploration of the play. This in-depth session, led by one of the Globe’s highly experienced education practitioners, uses activities and games designed to draw out elements of the language, characters and themes of one Shakespeare’s key tragic plays.
This workshop is an engaging way to enhance studies of Shakespeare and theatre, or a brilliant opportunity for aspiring young actors and Shakespeare enthusiasts to tread the boards. No previous experience is required, just a desire to take part and learn more.
About the play
When the aged King Lear relinquishes his empire, he divides it among his three daughters, promising the largest share to the one who professes to love him the most. The play is a nightmarish family drama of global proportions that forces us to confront our humanity and the profound need for compassion.

Tickets must be purchased by over 18s, but this workshop is designed for young people aged 14–16 attending independently. Parents and guardians must be present for drop-off and pick up of their young person and can enjoy the Globe’s food and drinks offer during the workshop.
