Any questions you might have about accessing one of our live streams in 2021

Do I need to purchase tickets for the stream and when?

Yes! All live stream tickets must be purchased in advance and sales will end one hour before the stream is due to start. For example, if the stream begins at 7.00pm, make sure you have purchased your tickets before 6.00pm.

Where do I get the link to watch the live stream?

You will receive an email the day before the live stream date with a link to access the film. You will also be able to access this link via the digital events page once you log in to your account.

You may need to refresh the link after the start time. You will also need to click the play button seen on the page.

You will need a good, reliable internet connection.

What devices can I watch on?

The live stream will be available through our website on any browser and as such can be viewed on any device with a web browser.

How do I watch on my laptop / desktop?

Using either the link that you will have been sent directly or by logging into your Shakespeare’s Globe account you will be able to access the watch page through your chosen browser.

If I am watching in a browser, how do I make the video full screen?

If you are watching in browser, at the bottom right of the video you will see various icons, including one the shape of a box with an outline (if you hover over it on certain devices, it will say ‘Fullscreen’). Click this icon, and this will make the video play in the full screen of your device.

How do I watch on my TV?

There are several ways you will be able to connect your playback device to your TV. The easiest way would be to connect your desktop, laptop or mobile device to your TV with the appropriate cable and adapter. If you have a casting device such as Chromecast or Apple TV then you will be able to cast directly from your device. Please consult the support section of your chosen casting device for further details on how to do so.

How do I watch on my SMART TV?

There are several ways you will be able to connect your playback device to your TV. The easiest way would be to connect your desktop, laptop or mobile device to your TV with the appropriate cable and adapter. A SMART TV will likely have an app of feature that allows you to cast directly from your playback device to your TV. Please consult the support section or manual of your chosen SMART TV for further details on how to do so.

What time do the live streams start?

All live streams have specific start times. Our next stream of Romeo & Juliet, for example, is due to start at 7.00pm on 10 July 2021.

We recommend that you log in and access the watch page up to half an hour before to limit any logging in or loading delays.

Note that all times are displayed in British Summer Time. If it helps, you can use a website called Time and Date to translate the time into your own time zone.

Can I watch from anywhere in the world?

Yes. You will be able to watch the livestream from anywhere in the world that allows access to our site. Note that performance times are displayed in British Summer Time.

Can I watch it after the listed start time / what if I am late?

As our livestream will be broadcasting in real time it will be starting at the time listed, for example, 7.00pm. You will be able to connect to the stream after this time (for example, at 7.15pm) but you will be unable to start it from the beginning.

Can I rewind the live stream?

As our live stream will be broadcasting in real time it will be starting from a specific time, for example, 7.00pm. You will be able to connect to the stream after this time but you will be unable to start it from the beginning or rewind it.

What can I do if I am having problems hearing the stream?

Please ensure that your computer or device sound is unmuted and that the volume on the player itself on the watch page also has the volume turned up. You may also find that your device is connected to headphones or a bluetooth device which is preventing the sound coming from your speakers so do ensure this is disconnected or change your sound settings on your device.

How do I access captions / subtitles?

On the watch page that you access through either the link sent directly to you or through your account, you will see tabs above the video that will allow you to switch to the captioned / English subtitles version. Please ensure you press play once you have switched over.

How do I access audio description?

Why are you live streaming plays?

Throughout our Summer 2021 season, we’ll be live streaming our performances straight to you at home, to ensure that while travel restrictions continue, we’re still able to bring our work to national and international audiences.

Are the streams really live?

Yes. All live streams are of performances taking place at that moment on the Globe Theatre stage at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Streams are very much live and not recorded – don’t miss the start time!
