At Shakespeare’s Globe, our top priority is to keep you safe

Please note that we are currently closed to the public until further notice.

We have a permanent uniformed security presence on site and work closely with the police and government agencies.

Some of our security measures are obvious, others are not. We currently have enhanced security, with all bags being checked before performances. Some entrances may be closed, so please follow signage.

We limit the size of bags that can be brought on to the site. The maximum bag size is 40cm x 35cm x 19cm. We are not able to admit oversized bags.

Storing bags

A cloakroom is available for patrons attending performances in either the Globe Theatre or the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse with a charge of £2.00 per item – this is for coats and small bags only. The cloakroom opens 30 minutes before the start of a performance and closes 15 minutes following the end of a performance.

Visitors are responsible for any items brought to the venue or left in the cloakroom. All bags will be subject to search and we recommend that you allow extra time for security checks at our entrances on arrival.

There is not a cloakroom available during guided tours, so you will need to store any large bags offsite if you are attending a tour.

If you need details of nearby bag-drop facilities, please refer to Stasher, BagBnB or Luggage Hero.

Bags containing necessary medical equipment, or buggies and equipment for use in childcare, will be permitted, subject to the owners agreeing that these items may need to be inspected. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

Our procedures

All Globe staff partake in security training and will remain vigilant to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable visit. As part of our ongoing liaison with the Metropolitan Police there is also a heightened police presence in support of our reassurance operations.

Please note that our security procedures are kept under constant review and therefore the above information may change.

We recently temporarily closed our doors to the public until further notice. As a charity that receives no regular government subsidy, we desperately need your support, more than ever before.

Please donate any amount, small or large, so that we can continue to thrive in the future.
