Research in Action: 30 Years of Research
Join us for a unique exploration of cue-script performance – an early modern theatrical practice brought to life in the intimate surrounds of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
This event is part of our Research in Action series, where actors – with scripts in hand – perform scenes from early modern plays to explore a research question. Accompanying the Globe’s For One Night Only cue-script performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in September, this workshop brings together actors, scholars, and the public to uncover what happens when performers rehearse and perform using only their individual lines and cues – just as they did in Shakespeare’s time.
This special Research in Action marks 30 years since the first Workshop Season took place on a partially reconstructed Globe stage, inaugurating a bold tradition of practice-as-research at Shakespeare’s Globe. While this event builds on decades of discovery on our stages, it also looks decidedly ahead – inviting the audience to join a lively conversation about how staging choices from the past can shape theatrical meaning today.
Whether you’re a researcher, student, or curious theatregoer, join us in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse for an evening of collaborative discovery.
