Celebrate ten years of London’s only candlelit theatre and explore the beautiful surrounds of this unique venue on a Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Tour.

Led by one of our expert guides, on this special tour you’ll learn about the legacy of 16th century indoor playhouses, including their impact on Shakespeare’s writing in his late plays such as The Winter’s Tale and The Tempest, as well as the history of our very own one, opened on Bankside in 2014.

Who was Sam Wanamaker?
Why was candlelight so important to Shakespeare?
How many candles does it take to light the Playhouse? And what are the candles made of?

Find out answers to these and more on a Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Tour.

Tours are in English and last approximately 40 minutes. Tickets for this experience do not include entry to the Globe Theatre.
