In her talk, Frances will discuss the ways in which she created the creepier elements in books such as Cuckoo Song, The Lie Tree and A Skinful of Shadows, by drawing on nightmares, folklore and irrational fears.
Such stories lead us into a macabre hinterland where everyone has their dark side, heroes can be monsters, and the everyday rules we trust to keep us safe shatter and betray us.
Suitable for ages 12+
