Shabaka Hutchings, widely regarded as one of the most influential, innovative, and creative musicians of his generation, presents Shabaka – to pause, to reflect, a live performance created specifically for the unrivalled intimacy of the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Shabaka’s work transcends conventional notions of genre, and draws from a vast pallet of cultural influences. Whilst he’s undeniably a pioneering voice in the renaissance of British Jazz, his remit is much broader: he’s also performed classical concertos with world-leading orchestras; led several hugely influential bands (Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming to name two); and has recently released a critically lauded solo album, Afrikan Culture, a work of exceptional beauty and urgency, focussed around the eastern Asian instrument, the shakuhachi, of which Shabaka is a major exponent.

For this performance, Shabaka welcomes two exceptional harpists, Alina Bzhezhinska, and Miriam Adefris, to combine with his extraordinary musical talent. It promises to be a kaleidoscopic and hypnotic show, mesmeric and powerful in equal measure.
