Shakespeare Songs: Andy Sheppard
EFG London Jazz Festival
Guillaume de Chassy
London’s biggest jazz music festival comes to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse this year with two outstanding performances of Shakespeare Songs and Chano Domíquez and Niño Josele.
‘One of the best jazz festivals in the world’
A musical journey across Shakespeare's world, this new Anglo-French project combines the talents of three leading contemporary jazz voices, weaving their magic around a series of musical portraits of characters from his plays and poems. Part improvised and part written, the music draws inspiration from Renaissance composers Thomas Morely and William Byrd, giving great importance to colour, melody, dynamics and, most of all, to space and silence.
‘The great English poet of the saxophone’, Andy Sheppard joins established French artists, drummer Christophe Marguet and pianist Guillaume de Chassy in their musical exploration of Shakespeare’s world.
