Did you know...?

The word ‘wassail’ comes from the Middle English ‘wæs hæil’, meaning ‘be in (good) health!’ It came to mean a spiced ale or mulled cider/wine drink, and also describes the custom of taking this bowl of hot cider from door to door in a community as part of the first fertility festival in the folk calendar.
