Movement for Classical Performance
Step into the physical world of Shakespeare in this practical one-day course for professional actors.
No set. No lighting design. No safety net. It’s time to get out of your head and into your body.
This is one of the biggest challenges with Shakespeare. The language can pull you into analysis when what it needs is movement. Shakespeare wrote for actors in motion, language which is shaped by rhythm, urgency, and lively action. This course focuses on bringing the text into the body and letting it drive you.
Working with the Globe’s Movement Faculty, you’ll explore how language triggers action, how thought shifts physically, and how character psychology and intention land through the body. You’ll build awareness and responsiveness with a body that’s available, connected, and able to meet the demands of any space.
For professional actors who want a physical approach to classical text that holds up in a theatre setting, without relying on design or tech. Step on stage. Command the space. Be seen.
Movement for Classical Performance is only available to registered members of the acting strand of The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe. Log in to book or find out more about joining The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe. This course is delivered between both our rehearsal rooms and on the Globe stage.
